The American Cancer Society rotates these events throughout various cities to help raise funds and awareness for the fight against cancer. This fundraiser not only is a great way to raise funds but also features a walk for those who are survivors and provides a way for others to honor those that they have lost due to cancer.
Our AHG has the opportunity to help this event and we are looking for YOU to sign up. Join this event with your AHG child or if needed, drop your child off with a signed permission slip for this service event.
Here are the details to know:
- Date of Event: Friday, July 18th
- Time: 1pm...until the luminaries are set up (the time frame depends on how many people help)
- Where: RCTC
- What: Setting up the luminaries that people have purchased to honor someone they know who has fought or is still fighting cancer. These luminaries are placed around the track for the walk and are shining bright during the walk. Set up is very simple and just requires putting some weight in the bottom of the bag, a candle and then placing it in the proper position.
- What to wear: Wear your AHG uniform...either your t-shirt with the AHG logo that you might have from camp or the uniform that you would wear to meetings.
- Want to help? RSVP via e-mail to mominmn@gmail.com by June 22nd to let us know if you can be part of this event. We do need to have a number of how many people are helping and also need to know what AHG members won't be attending with a parent or adult. Please send an e-mail to Jessica Williams at mominmn@gmail.com by June 22nd with the following:
- Parents/Guardians Names
- AHG child that is attending
- How many people in your family can attend or if *your child can attend but will be dropped off. *we will need to e-mail you a permission slip that must be filled out for this service event for this option*
A few other bits of info:
- If you would like to help out as a family and be part of the luminary pick-up, please let me know by Sunday, June 22nd via e-mail at mominmn@gmail.com. Clean-up is on Saturday, July 19th at 6am at RCTC. We need to see how many families are interested in helping with this part of the event to see if we have enough people to volunteer as a group.
- Families are also welcome to be part of this event! There are many activities for kids and families starting at 6pm on July 18th...you could even walk as a family or individually. You can find more info at www.relayforlife.org
